Purpose of job

Lead regulatory compliance and conduct insight, oversight and challenge in relation to the relevant business area

What does this job deliver?

(Key accountabilities) Support executives in making sure that the business strategy for the relevant business units is consistent with and supports an effective regulatory framework Provide expert support, advice, MI and escalation to leaders and the business on risk management Support executives on regulatory engagement with the FCA in relation to relevant matters relating to customer franchises and business units Coach and mentor colleagues and less experienced compliance managers

Knowledge and experience

* Strong financial services experience, preferably in banking and working for regulated firms in the conduct risk environment

* Broad technical knowledge of products, services and regulations relevant to a large retail and wholesale bank

* Knowledge and experience of providing regulatory and technical support and advice to senior management

* The ability to analyse, understand and draw sound conclusions from a wide range of sources and information including MI

* A track record in effective senior stakeholder management, with relevant experience in a compliance or conduct risk related discipline

* Experience in, and the ability to have, challenging conversations with stakeholders to reach agreed positions, with a proven strength in influencing and negotiation skills

* Proven ability to think strategically and to simplify complex conduct matters to make sure they are effectively managed, understood and communicated

What are the accountabilities of the job?

* Mitigate the risk of legal or regulatory sanctions, material financial loss and reputational harm

* Provide critical analysis and independent challenge, on the functions strategy, and approach to defining and measuring the conduct risk appetite

* Interrogate and assess function structures and provide strategic regulatory advice through a focus on customer outcomes and regulatory expectations

* Provide senior level support and challenge, specifically focussing on providing leadership and direction on key elements of conduct and culture plans, such as the delivery of an effective risk management framework for conduct risk and credible plan to enhance and embed an appropriate risk culture

* Provide technical advice on the interpretation of regulatory rules applicable to the function and their impact on the operating model

* Support the function in their approach to objectively measuring and quantifying the conduct risk profile and embedding it in front line processes

* Operate within the parameters of a second line of defence risk function providing constructive and impactful support and challenge to business stakeholders on the conduct risk appetite framework and strategy

* Own stakeholder relationships to make sure that there is an early understanding and buy-in of conduct risk appetite activity within the businesses

* Deliver credible, informed and insightful conduct opinion into culture programmes, remuneration and performance management processes

* Responsible for own and direct reports expenses, keeping within budget

* Provide advice, guidance and oversight on all compliance related regulatory issues, and hold a level of responsibility for the management reporting and communication of compliance risk management framework for businesses

* Report on key areas of exposure and identify appropriate solutions

* Lead the performance of compliance monitoring

* Support the business in implementing mitigating strategies on all compliance regulatory issues
