Job description

Corporate Policy & Equality Officer

Lisburn

Temporary

The Client: Local body based in Lisburn, serving local residents.

The Role: To support the Head of Corporate Policy in the delivery of the functionary areas of Corporate Policy, Disability, Equality and Rural Needs Impact Assessment, namely the Policy Development Framework, and compliance matters pertaining to Section 75 statutory duties to promote equality of opportunity and good relations, disability statutory duties under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act, and the Rural Needs Act (NI) 2016.

  • To identify and implement positive actions to promote an equality and diversity culture within the body consistent with the principles of the Equality and Diversity Framework.
  • Implementation of the Disability Action Plan to ensure compliance with the Disability Duties relating to the Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act.
  • Responsible for the co-ordination of rural proofing processes, and collation of data to effectively monitor the implementation of the Rural Needs Act (NI) 2016.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the implementation and application of corporate policies through a tailored programme of awareness and training sessions.
  • Provide a professional advisory support service to relevant officers on the formulation, development and implementation of policies.

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, Mon-Fri 9-5

Requirements:

Hold a third level qualification AND At least 1 year's relevant work experience in a minimum of two of the following areas:

  1. Policy development
  2. Equality and good relations
  3. Statutory duty compliance

OR in lieu of qualification

At least 2 year's work experience in in a minimum of two of the following areas:

  1. Policy development
  2. Equality and good relations
  3. Statutory duty compliance.
  • At least 1 year's relevant work experience in a minimum of three of the following areas: Undertaking research and preparing briefing papers to inform decision-making; monitoring and evaluation; Designing and delivering training. Consultation and engagement; Action planning and implementation
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, databases and able to manage email.
  • Be available to travel and attend evening and other meetings outside of office hours as required.
  • Hold a full valid driving licence and have access to transport to meet the requirements of the post OR Have access to a mode of transport that will enable the post holder to fulfil the role in full. (It should be noted that the post will involve travel across the district on a regular basis)
  • Competencies: contributes to the development of a strategy and conveys a clear vision led by being innovative, ambitious and proactive, plans structures and prioritises own work to achieve optimal results, develop and manage effective networks, overcomes obstacles and takes the responsibility to get things done
