Job description

Design Engineer

Belfast

£25,000 to £35,000

As a member of the Operations Team, the Design Engineer will be responsible for product design, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, CNC programming, estimating and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use applicable/available software to create models and drawings of products
  • Research new materials and methods of development
  • Organise and maintain existing engineering records
  • Construct prototypes and confirm designs with design/purchasing team
  • Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes including Sample First Article Inspections prior to dispatch to customer.
  • Ensure components and assemblies follow applicable industry and business standards
  • Customer satisfaction: Ensuring customer requirements are met and communicated effectively - both internal and external customers
  • Change management: To actively generate new and improved methods of working and production processes.
  • Researching whether the design will work and be cost-effective
  • Assessing the usability, environmental impact, and safety of a design
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-assisted engineering (CAE) software to create prototypes
  • Collecting and analysing data from tests on prototypes
  • Modifying designs and retesting them
  • Writing regular progress reports and presenting them to project managers and clients
  • Produce designs to achieve best yield and agree MOQ for sales to communicate to customers.

Criteria

  • 5 years minimum relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of AutoCAD & SolidWorks 3D CAD software
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of current CNC technology
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
  • A creative flair and design ability
  • Excellent project management skills
