A temporary position has become available for an Electro-Mechanical Engineer within the Custom Power Solutions Group at Caterpillar (N.I.) situated at Larne. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the Caterpillar Electric Power engineering team.
The Custom Power Solutions Group is responsible for the development of design to order customer specific products. This includes new product development, technical support for operations, processing of engineering changes, investigation & resolution of product quality issues.
The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Supervisor and will primarily carry out the concept and design of bespoke control cabinets & Sheetmetal assemblies for release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, best cost, durability, quality, and serviceability.
This role provides a great opportunity for an engineer to develop their abilities within an experienced team working on projects for various export markets.
Functions & Responsibilities:
Interpretation of consultant drawings & specifications.
Development of new products and components.
Design of bespoke control cabinets and Sheetmetal assemblies in 3D CAD.
Knowledge to produce manufacturing drawings from 3D model.
Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Sales Departments.
Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals.
Specification and requisition of components and services.
Create bill of materials.
Receives general direction but exercises discretion as to personal work details. Plan and execute as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, quality, delivery). Assumes responsibility of all assigned work.
Work as a member of a project team, maintain project schedule, attend project meetings, and keep engineering manager informed of status, and complete required project metrics and design documentation.
Assist with the development and updating of procedures, design guides and instruction manuals.

Education and Experience:
A Degree, or equivalent, in Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline and proven design experience.
(Lower academic qualifications may be considered if extensive experience in a relevant product design role(s) can be demonstrated).
Experience of product development with a sound technical background and a good knowledge of current engineering design practice.
Experience in 3D sheetmetal assemblies and control cabinet modelling.
Experience in 3D CAD is required, CREO preferred, but other packages may be acceptable.
Knowledge of electrical installation, MCCs, control panels and switchboards is advantageous.
