Job description

Finance Secretary

Full time hours (35 hours per week)

Newry

Temporary (Until Easter 2021)

Hours of work: Mon to Fri 8.30am - 4.30pm

The Role:

As Finance Secretary you will support the Bursar in the efficient and effective running of the office; You will do this by carrying out a range of financial and administration duties which supports the day to day, and strategic financial management of the College.

Accountabilities of the Role

  • Be accountable at all times and in all areas of responsibility to the Bursar
  • Demonstrate loyalty and confidentiality
  • Foster good relationships between all staff

Payroll duties and responsibilities

  • Processing Payroll; collating, interpreting and processing all payroll information for each employee within the school
  • Maintaining staff records on Sims
  • Completing associated duties in relation to staff and pupil attendance, absence, record keeping

Accounts Administrations

  • Purchase ledger and credit control
  • Operation of the Colleges Computerised Information System (SIMS)
  • Supporting the SIMS Manager in the complete of specified tasks day to day

General Office Duties

  • Completing Access NI checks within the college
  • Providing administrative support to the Senior Leadership Team

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified to NVQ 3 (or similar equivalent higher-level qualification) in Business/ Administration or Finance
  • At least 5 years' experience of working a similar role in a busy office environment
  • Excellent IT Skills with experience of using Opera Payroll system
  • Ability to work on own initiative, as part of a team and work collaboratively
  • Excellent demonstrable administration skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organised approach to work
  • Demonstrable ability to work to strict deadlines

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of using schools-based computer applications. Systems within a school setting (C2K, the MIS (SIMS) system, FMS)
  • Experience in a School Office environment
