Job description

Temporary Logistics Manager required for a local government organisation based in Belfast City Centre.

Rate of Pay: £27.85 per hour

Location: Belfast city centre

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday (08:30-17:00)

Duration: 2 months pending review

Main duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic, operational, logistical and financial management of high profile operational services including the effective management of all staff, and physical and financial resources
  • Provide a lead role in assisting the appropriate senior manager in the development, review and implementation of the Waste Management Plan and in particular the development of new initiatives, approaches and services to meet all targets
  • Ensure that operational services under the post-holder's remit are developed to be responsive to the needs of residents, businesses and service users
  • Work in conjunction with the Waste Manager with regard to the implementation of the appropriate action plans and services to achieve all recycling targets
  • Monitor and review designated services to identify commercial business opportunities, to maximise income generation and to develop action plans to deliver improved quality and cost reduction
  • Lead on the development of strategic operational policies and procedures to ensure that internal and external customers are supported and to ensure best practice across areas of responsibility
  • Work in conjunction with the Waste Manager to identify and manage the development and preparation of contracts, specifications and service level agreements ensuring appropriate contract management processes and procedures are in place
  • Confirm that appropriate checks and assessments have been conducted to identify potential risks that may impact on operational services and all commercial and domestic users
  • Provide cover for the Waste Manager as required and assist in the management of other functions within Waste Management
  • Keep up to date with relevant new developments in legislation, policy, fleet management, waste management and other necessary practices relevant to operational services and implementing
  • Initiate, develop and maintain appropriate partnerships and liaise with other public, private and voluntary bodies
  • Ensure that process design meets service needs and that through the increased use of ICT, the appropriate systems are in place for the efficient handling of public enquiries and complaints whilst maintaining customer service excellence
  • Develop, implement and maintain performance management arrangements, policies and procedures, in line with management framework to monitor service delivery, support continuous service improvement, ensure accurate and timely production of all information required for council, committee official returns and meet the requirements of the organisation's efficiency agenda
  • Represent Waste Management in meetings with other departments, Elected Members and external agencies, ensure the service contributes to strategic objectives and ensure alignment of operational services activities with those of other departments, external agencies and organisations
  • Ensure that all human resource management policies and procedures are adhered to and to be responsible for managing all high level industrial and employee relations
  • Have overall responsibility for establishing safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with all health and safety requirements, regarding both staff and the public

Essential criteria:

  • A relevant third level qualification in a subject area such as logistics, business, management, operations or an equivalent qualification
  • A full driving licence which enables the holder to drive in Northern Ireland and a car available for official business
  • Two years relevant experience in management, planning and programming of significant, high profile operational service
