Job description

As Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible for the continuous, smooth running of equipment and machinery. You will play a vital role in the efficiency, development and progress of production processes. You will work as part of the team to deliver the highest quality doors to our Customers by providing well maintained, efficient machinery and equipment for Production operatives to use.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the implementation of 2 second lean ideas daily from other members of staff where some minor fabrication work etc. is required. This is a central part of our continuous improvement strategy
  • To plan and undertake routine scheduled maintenance
  • To work as part of the team to meet production targets as set out by the sales teams
  • To respond to breakdowns in a timely manner and repair equipment as necessary
  • To diagnose faults and breakdowns to identify root cause
  • To obtain specialist components, fixtures or fittings
  • To ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
  • To create and maintain maintenance procedures
  • To manage stocks of maintenance supplies and equipment
  • To fabricate equipment for development work and production processes
  • To work with Management team to develop processes and implement new products. Also to suggest improvement ideas for processes and machinery
  • To coach and train production operatives on use of and maintenance of machinery and equipment. To assist new team members and share your knowledge
  • To source and drive to collect parts for machines and equipment where necessary
  • To work cooperatively with all employees in Production, Admin, Finance and Installation teams
  • To ensure all quality standards are adhered to. Also to stop production, if judged appropriate, to correct quality problems
  • To ensure any issues which could lead to non-conforming product are reported to the appropriate personnel; team leader, maintenance, management etc., if unable to resolve yourself
  • To ensure your work area including tools, equipment and parts are kept tidy and housekeeping standards are adhered to at all times

  • To ensure that at all times, you adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures as set out by the Company and that all duties are carried out to comply with:

    1. The Health and Safety at Work (N.I.) Order 1978;
    2. Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements;
    3. Agreed Codes of Practice; including the COSHH Regulations
    Any other statutory regulations which may apply
  • To ensure that all risks or hazards identified are raised to the appropriate person for follow-up, if unable to resolve yourself

Skills

  • Ability to respond positively and work well under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Have the relevant technical knowledge. Work will be predominantly mechanical but some basic electrical work will also be required
  • Have good diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Be efficient and well organised and to work in a tidy manner
  • Have strong team-working skills and be able to work co-operatively with people at all levels of the business
  • Be able to motivate others as well as negotiate and persuade
  • Be adaptable and flexible, as working environment will require you to move from task to task as demands and priorities dictate
  • The capacity to understand a range of engineering functions and procedures and to be able to read basic engineering drawings
  • Be able to fabricate and weld using various forms of welding
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as chop saws, guillotines, brake press and pillar drills etc. Also hand tools such as riveters and hand drills
