MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To assist in the day-to-day operation of Carrickfergus Museum, including front of house customer service and office administrative support for the Collections Access Officer.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out duties in respect of general assistance at Carrickfergus Museum, including administrative support functions such as word processing, filing, coding of invoices, drafting letters, handling emails/telephone calls, enquiries and requests, taking appropriate actions as required.
Deal with queries from public, schools and community groups in respect of areas of service delivery.
Assist in the delivery of workshops, talks, tours and educational visits to Carrickfergus Museum.
In line with the Museum's Documentation Procedure Manual, the post holder will be responsible for documenting the collections, including the process of creating entry records and cataloguing, and maintaining and developing documentation and information files relevant to the collection and local history.
Implement cleaning and preventive conservation of artefacts and draw the Collections Access Officer's attention to any problems requiring external conservation advice or work by a professional conservator, and facilitate access by professional conservators working on site to objects in the collection and provide supporting collection documentation on request.
Carry out marking and labelling of the objects in the Museum's care.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA;
A minimum of 5 GCSEs to include English Language and Maths (grade C or above) or equivalent qualifications to demonstrate literacy and numeracy
AND
Two years' administrative experience in a busy office environment to include the ability to deal efficiently with large volumes of work and prioritising demands.
OR
Alternatively consideration may be given to candidates who do not possess the required educational qualifications but who can demonstrate three years' administrative experience in a busy office environment to include the ability to deal efficiently with large volumes of work and prioritising demands.
