Principal Legal Officer required for a large public sector organisation based through the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
Salary: £27.04 p/h
Location: CSO, Chichester Street
Hours: 37 hours per week
Start date: June 2023

JOB SUMMARY / MAIN PURPOSE:
The purpose of the role is to provide high quality legal services, and in particular to manage and co-ordinate litigation and potential litigation, for all Whitehall departments and other public bodies in Northern Ireland with a particular emphasis on:
- Legacy and non-legacy inquests, Judicial Reviews and appeals to the Court of Appeal;
- Litigation in relation to defamation, stress at work and high value personal injury claims;
- County Court and High Court claims against the security forces and PSNI;
The role holder will have full responsibility for managing a caseload and exercising sound judgment to identify options leading to quality outcomes. This includes making informed decisions on the overall approach in each case, advising clients regarding liability and the consequences of their cases in the wider strategic context and negotiating with claimants' solicitors and Counsel where settlement is appropriate.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- A qualified Solicitor/Barrister, entitled to practice in Northern Ireland
- 3-5 Civil Litigation experience (PQE)
