Job Title: Senior Engineer (Operations)

Location: Enniskillen

Length: 12 Months

The Client: Waterways Ireland

The Role:

The Senior Engineer (Operations) will be part of the Regional Management Team. He/she will oversee management/maintenance, recreational/commercial use, and future development of Waterways Ireland infrastructure within the Shannon Navigation, Shannon-Erne Waterway and Grand Canal Rural and/or other areas, as required. The Senior Engineer will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Regional Depots and will engage with the Regional Stores to support the development, procurement and purchasing of goods and services.

The successful applicant will be required to manage the resources of their navigation including, financial, operational staff and waterway assets and he/she will also be required to manage consultants/contractors working on Waterways Ireland property for implementation of new or refurbishment projects. The successful applicant will also be required to coordinate with user groups for facilitation of events, and to work in partnership with third parties and local interests to manage and develop the waterways for increased recreational use.

Hours of work: Full Time Monday to Friday 9am -5pm (Hybrid Working: 2 days in HQ or on site, 3 days working from home)

Requirements:

Eligibility Criteria

  • Possess a Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) or an equivalent qualification which qualifies the candidate to apply for chartered membership of a relevant professional engineering institution (ICE / IEI).

AND

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years relevant post qualification experience in the design or construction of civil / structural engineering projects, at least 2 of which should have been in an operational environment

AND

  • Hold a current driving licence and possess access to a form of transport which will permit travel throughout Ireland and ensure that the person can supervise works spread over a wide area.

Essential Criteria

  • Possess knowledge and experience of the key issues involved in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering, in particular relating to construction in a water-based environment including site supervision, site management and budgetary provision
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Possess knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Welfare issues associated with construction and maintenance works
  • Be computer literate and possess competence in the use of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and IT based surveying equipment/engineering design tools
  • Possess excellent project management and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate experience of developing technical specifications, conditions of contract, tender documentation, procurement, and framework contracts and managing large complex budgets

Desirable Short-listing Criteria

  • Have experience of working in a maintenance environment
  • Be a chartered member of a relevant Engineering Institution
  • Possess a health and safety qualification
  • Possess an understanding of the environmental issues involved in the development of waterways
  • Demonstrate experience of working with Trade Unions

In Return:

  • Rate of pay: £39,748 - £42,639

Successful candidates may need to apply for an Access NI Certificate with Staffline regardless if you already have a valid certificate. It will be a cost of between £18 - £33 depending on clearance level.
