Support Technician

Temporary Support Technician required for a large public sector organisation based through NIFRS

Rate of Pay: 10.22

Location: NIFRS

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Duration: Temporary ongoing

JOB SUMMARY / MAIN PURPOSE:

To support Service Delivery by assisting the relevant Directorate in tasks including driving, testing, maintenance and transfer of equipment, delivery of equipment, supplies and personnel to Operational incidents, training support, cleaning and maintenance duties.

To participate in the Duty Standby Rota and respond to support Service Delivery activities.

KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Driving

  1. To support Service Delivery by assisting the relevant Directorate in tasks including driving, testing, maintenance and transfer of equipment, delivery of equipment, supplies and personnel to Operational incidents, training support, cleaning and maintenance duties.
  2. To participate in the Duty Standby Rota and respond to support Service Delivery activities.
  3. To undertake driving duties for the Service Support/Delivery Directorate utilising Service vehicles such as vans and cars
  4. To ensure the supplies inventory within assigned vans is maintained and accounted for in a timely and accurate manner.

Transport

  1. To safely transfer and deliver equipment and materials to NIFRS properties and Command Areas including operational incidents and training exercises, utilising hand-held scanners or similar for the delivery schedule
  2. To deliver complete fire appliance with inventory to stations as required, including de-kitting and re-kitting the old appliance and completing the necessary maintenance and equipment records.
  3. To tag equipment as required and log on the inventory management system. Support Technician 3 of 6 Date effective from:
  4. To update Regional Control Centre (RCC) when an appliance changeover has taken place, ensuring details are secured concerning the type of changeover and the location of defective or available spare appliances.
  5. To deliver 1st and 2nd stage fire ground feeding to operational incidents as required.

Fire & Rescue Equipment

10.To retrieve firefighting and associated equipment including cleaning, reporting defects and returning the equipment to its original location as required.

11.To charge Breathing Apparatus cylinders and Medical Oxygen cylinders as required and distribute charged cylinders throughout the assigned Service area, recording the completed work as required utilising computerised records

12.To test and report any defects in fire hydrants within any assigned area

13.To pack and unpack Supplies deliveries and prepare goods for transportation including loading and unloading of vehicles.

14.To prepare all product for disposal in line with the required contract arrangements.

15.To transport wheels to various depots in order for tyres to be changed tyres.

16.To test electrical hazard protective gloves following specified procedures including the reporting of defects and the recording of computerised test results. (Centre Support Technicians only)

17.To test and calibrate gas detection readers following specified procedures including the reporting of defects and the recording of computerised test results. (Centre Support Technicians only)

18.To undertake, and record on a computerised system the washing, testing, repairing and re-winding of hose as required

Training Support

19.Cleaning and maintenance of training props and equipment ready for training delivery

20.Preparation of wood to burn for training scenarios along with the loading fire cribs and the subsequent cleaning of the same.

21.Clearing and maintenance of training areas to support training delivery.

22.Placing and relocation of training props (eg end of life vehicles) to facilitate training

23.Charging of BA Cylinders and ensuring that there is sufficient supply to support any training where their use is required.

Cleaning and Maintenance

24.To undertake the cleaning and day-to-day maintenance of Service vehicles

25.To maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of assigned buildings and grounds including brushing, hosing, cleaning, weeding, picking up litter, emptying oil, crushing filters and disinfecting storage areas around bins and skips following scheduled refuse and recycling collections.

26.To apply salt or de-icing materials to NIFRS yards and car parks and clear drains and gulleys using a high pressure hose or similar

Essential criteria

1.A minimum of two years' experience working as a driver/handyperson or similar in a service environment which included driving Heavy Goods Vehicles.

  1. Can demonstrate:
  2. a) ability to use MS office or an MIS system
  3. b) ability to work individually or as a team member.
  4. c) effective communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to provide timely and accurate information.
  5. d) customer service orientation.
  6. Possess a full, current UK driving licence category C which enables them to fulfil the full requirements of the role.
